Bending Light

These are photographs of polarized light striking birefringent plastics and refractive glass.  They were taken using a digital camera.  In that sense, they are firmly grounded in science, engineering, and technology - yet the images are mysterious and other worldly.  They are not immediately readable for what they actually are.  They invite us to wonder, to question, to pause and look deeply, to take the time to allow an emotional response to arise.
